Introducing Improvements to the Report Copilot in Power BI

Headshot of article author Ben Zulauf

We’ve upgraded the Report Copilot experience in Power BI, making it easier than ever to create, edit, and refine beautiful, data-rich reports with the help of AI.

With this update, Copilot in Power BI not only helps you create entire report pages in seconds but now also gives you more control, flexibility, and visual intelligence than ever before. The new Report Copilot experience is available now in the Power BI service and will be coming to Power BI Desktop in November 2025.

Smarter, More Capable Visual Creation

The new Copilot understands your data and intent more deeply than ever. Just tell it what you want to create, and watch your ideas come to life instantly.

  • Better visual recommendations: Copilot now selects the most appropriate visuals for your data automatically.
  • Expanded visual library: Copilot supports a wider range of visuals, giving you more options to present insights exactly how you envision them.
  • Improved context awareness: When you describe what you want to see, Copilot now understands more nuanced instructions, producing more accurate and insightful results.

Do More with Existing Reports

You asked and we listened—the updated Report Copilot goes beyond creating new reports. Now you can collaborate with Copilot as you iterate, instead of starting from scratch every time.

  • Add visuals to existing report pages.
  • Change or replace visuals to refine how insights are displayed.
  • Delete visuals that are no longer needed.
  • Works with the undo and redo stack, so you can confidently experiment and make changes.

Getting Started: Accessing Report Copilot

To access the new Copilot experience:

  1. Open a report in the Power BI service.
  2. Select ‘Edit’ to enter edit mode.
  3. Once in editing, you’ll see the ‘Copilot’ button in the ribbon.
  4. From there, you can start creating, modifying, or refining visuals directly within your existing report.

Tip: If you don’t see the Copilot button, make sure you’re working in a Copilot-enabled workspace, one assigned to Fabric or Premium (P1+) capacity, and that your admin has enabled Copilot in Microsoft Fabric.

Creating with Copilot Just Got Better

With the new Report Copilot, building reports in Power BI is faster, smarter, and more intuitive than ever. From richer visuals to more flexible editing and undo/redo support, everything works together to make creating with Copilot a smoother and more powerful experience.
