Join us for the first monthly Power BI Dev Camp! on Thursday 24 September, 2020 at 11:00 AM – 12:00 noon PDT. Ted Pattison, Microsoft principal program manager with Power BI, presents this month’s topic: Writing PowerShell Scripts for Power BI.
In this Power BI Dev Camp session, we’ll explore how to get started with writing and testing PowerShell scripts to automate common administrative tasks in a Power BI environment. We’ll begin by introducing the Power BI Cmdlets library and discussing the various ways to authenticate as either a user or as a service principal. Campers will learn how to automate common tasks such as uploading PBIX files, patching datasource credentials and refreshing datasets. The session will also explore using the Invoke-PowerBIRestMethod cmdlet to call Power BI Service API operations which involve writing PowerShell code to parse together REST URLs and to convert PowerShell objects into JSON to populate the body of an HTTP request. And lastly, we explore working with the PowerShell cmdlets for On-premises data gateway management to write PowerShell scripts to silently install a data gateway and to manage user access to gateway-bound datasources.
Ted will be announcing the August Campers Challenge winners during this session!
